Clostridium difficile Bacteria, a bacterium that is often acquired in a hospital setting by patients on antibiotics. Antibiotics alter the normal flora of the intestines which allows for the colonization of Clostridium difficile. Once colonized the bacteria release endotoxins which cause colitis and severe diarrhea. SEM X10,760.
