![Pariacoto Virus protein capsid (cut in half) and structured RNA genome. Mostly used as a model virus in the laboratory, the virus was originally isolated in Peru from the Southern Armyworm [Spodoptera eridania]. This atomic structure was modeled with internal double-stranded portion of RNA (the genome is single stranded but it can fold back onto itself to become locally double-stranded). The RNA is modeled as a dodecahedral cage which posesses the same 5-, 3-, and 2-fold symmetry as that of the protein icosahedral shell. Rendering with ambient occlusion shadowing helps distinguish surface features. View is roughly along the 5-fold icosahedral symmetry axis.
