Erosion developed after plant life was killed by fumes from a copper smelter around 1900, Copper Hill, Tennessee, USA. Only limited succession has occurred so Kudzu ,Pueraria lobata,, a pest plant species in many areas of the Southeast, has been planted to slow further water erosion.
